RTI Activists take out ‘march against corruption’

Corruption will be Up rooted : A pledge

The nation marked the 63 rd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Sunday, with thousands of Indians who participated in a ‘march against corruption’ and thereby demanded effective anti-corruption laws. The protest march started at 1pm from Ramlila Maidan and concluded at Jantar Mantar.

The rally was be led by eminent people from all walks of life such as Kiran Bedi, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal, Sri Sri Ravi Shanker, Swami Agnivesh, Maulana Mahmood Madani, and Archbishop of Delhi Rev Vincent M Concessao. The legal fraternity was led by advocate Prashant Bhushan, Shanti Bhushan and Fali S Nariman also joined in.

The rally was to seek the enactment of a law to set up an anti-corruption body at the centre – the Lokpal – and a similar one in the states – Lokayukta.

As per Mr.Arvind Kejriwal “They want the Lokpal Bill drafted by civil society should be brought in since the one drafted by the government lacks substance. Under this, six months to a year will be given for investigation of a complaint and another year for trial. The Lokpal should also be independent of the government.
